HOMEWORK:
As part of a school-wide 20/20 program, students are to read 20 minutes for 20 days each month. My class goal is an hour a week.
Please sign your child's homework reading calendar for credit, even if he/she didn't read the full 20 minutes. Practicing the sight word lists and their Reader's Theater (which we do later in the year), counts too.
*Learning sight words is very important. There are so many words in English that kids must just learn and can't sound out because they are not spelled like they sound. (ex. one, two, are, said)
Most nights your child will have a very short math review sheet, too. (Encouraged but NOT mandatory.) We usually start it in class so there's very little to do at home.
There is also an optional Bonus Homework chart in your child's folder with activities that have your child practice various skills. (review, fine motor, movement, sorting, etc.) I provide this because many parents over the years have asked me, "What are some things I could be doing at home to help my child succeed and to practice what he's been learning?"
Your child will earn credit for all homework completed towards small prizes as an incentive.
